Sunnyside Sustainable Living

Sunnyside Sustainable Living (SSL) is a privately owned development company whose mission is to maintain the architectural and social character of the Sunnyside community through the development of well-designed and affordable rental housing.

Located on a busy street corner, the site features a set of narrow inner-city lots which are currently home to two historic brick bungalows. In alignment with the community’s vision, the project aims to sensitively introduce additional density through the redevelopment of the existing homes and the introduction of two new laneway residences. Situated along the north edge of the property, the laneway suites will replace two aging garage structures. The 450 square foot units are elevated above ground to provide separation from vehicular traffic along the lane and to accommodate service areas and resident parking. The building massing, roofline, and materiality have all been carefully considered so as to complement and enhance the existing historic homes.
