Sunnyside Sustainable Living (SSL) is a privately owned development company whose mission is to maintain the architectural and social character of the Sunnyside community through the development of well-designed, affordable rental housing.
Previously home to a community grocery store, the site currently operates as a micro-greens production facility. Since acquiring the property in 2014, SSL has curated a series of graphic installations by local artists that have helped to rejuvenate the existing site and celebrate the eclectic nature of the Sunnyside community.
The scheme for the new development continues SSL’s mission of creating affordable housing, with the introduction of six new 2, 3 and 4 bedroom family-oriented townhomes. The building’s restrained brick façades are intended to serve as a canvas for SSL’s art program, providing a creative and ever-changing backdrop for the community.
